Love Endures All Things

“Love endures all things” – 1 Corinthian 13:7

St-Takla-org--Jesus-Crown-of-Thorns-07How many people would be willing to go through what Jesus did for a world that did not accept Him?  The apostle Paul declared that it is unlikely that a person would die for another unless the person was really good.  But Jesus died not for the righteous but for sinners.  we are all sinners and He died for us.

He was led as a Lamb to be slaughtered.  he was rejected, lied about, disrespected, spat on, slapped, badly beaten, mocked and treated like a common criminal.  He was beaten so that we could have peace and whipped so we could be healed.  He was treated harshly.  He was arrested and led away in secret and did not receive a fair trial.  He had never done anything wrong but He was buried like a criminal (Isaiah 53:5, 7, 9, NLT).  He wore a crown of thorns so that we could one day wear crowns of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8, KJV).

Many of those He died for despised and rejected Him.  They turned their backs on Him.  They wanted no part of Him.  They chose Barabbas, a hardened criminal over Him.  When He was on the cross, the soldiers gambled for His robe.  When Jesus was thirsty, they gave Him vinegar instead of water.  The people jeered at Him, saying, “If You are the Son of God, save Yourself adn come down from the cross” (Matthew 27:40, NLT).

Who among the people realized that He was dying fo their sins–that He was suffering for their punishment (Isaiah 53:8, NLT).  Would it have made a difference if they had?  Does it make a difference to you?
