Children are like sponges. They soak up what they see and hear. Two nights ago our son was scolding one of his toy trucks because it had been disobedient. He told it, “You don’t listen!” Then he pushed it aside and turned and played with the other truck.
I picked up the truck and pretended to ask it what it had done. Then I told our son that the truck was sorry for what it had done and I could the change in his face. He took the truck from me. He spoke gently to it and played with it again. All was well.
God wants us to be like sponges, soaking up what we read in His Word and what we have seen and heard from godly people. Jesus wants us to be doers of the Word. We are to soak up His teachings and when we don that we are like the man who built his house on the rock.
