Children are a blessing from God. He blessed Abraham and Sarah with Isaac; Hannah with Samuel and David with Solomon. God has placed children into our care and expects us to be good parents–good stewards. In His Word He gives us guidelines on how to do this.
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6)
Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die (Proverbs 23:13)
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4)
Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged (Colossians 3:21)
We are to instruct them in the way of the Lord and teach them His commandments. We are to teach them to respect their parents and to care for others and their environment. We are to teach them to be productive and responsibility. Jesus helped Joseph in his carpentry shop. God gave Adam a job before He gave him the responsibility of caring for a family.
Today I started reading a wonderful book titled, Parenting Your Infant/Toddler by the Spirit. Author Sally Hohnberger gives valuable tips on how to raise a child in the Spirit and lay the foundation for a godly character. This begins when the child is in the womb. I wish I had read this book while I was pregnant. However, it is not too late to start raising our toddler to follow God.
